Model United Nations

What is Model United Nations?

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically role play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which is usually organised by a secondary school MUN club. At the end of most conferences, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognised and given an award certificate.

Thousands of students across the country and around the world participate in Model United Nations, which involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. MUN skills are developed through the TY MUN module and in lessons of CSPE and History. Lusk CC delegates attended the European Youth Parliament, the Wesley College MUN conference, Amnesty Schools Day and The High School MUN in their inaugural year.

Student Voice for Justice learns from Ibrahim Halawa

Student MUN and Press Teams partake in the Amnesty Schools Day

What an inspiring day at the Amnesty Schools Day for our Press and Model United Nations members. Hearing from Ibrahim Halawa speak of his time in Egyptian jail and his gratitude for freedom instilled a sense of importance to the Amnesty 'BRAVE' Campaign, working to defend those around the world unable to speak for justice. Students also learned about Ireland's Direct Provision, in addition to problems faced by refugees in Ireland and in refugee camps abroad highlighted as part of the 'I Welcome' Campaign.

Delegates represent Egypt and Argentina at The High School MUN Conference.

Congratulations to our delegates Sean, Elizabeth and Darren who were first timers at MUN, in addition to Megan, Rafael and Bobbi who attend their second. Representing Egypt and Argentina the delegates worked towards resolutions on topics as diverse as 'Suppression of free speech', 'Question of Yemen' and 'Cyberattacks', among others.
