The Continuum of Support is a problem-solving framework used in schools to identify, respond to and support the additional needs of students. It ensures that every student receives the right support, at the right time, based on their individual needs. Support is provided through a stepped approach: Whole-class support for all → Targeted support for some → More individualised support for a few The goal is always the same: to help every student access, participate in and achieve in school. A continuum, not a ladder - Students can move between levels of support as their needs change. The level of support is based on need, not diagnosis.
Who is Involved?
Supporting a student is a partnership. The student: The student's strengths, interests, views and experiences are central to planning support.
