By Maisie Lanigan (4D)On Thursday the 26th of September our TY students went to World Skills Day 2024 in the RDS!
This trip was a bit different to the ones we have had so far as we were taking public transport for the first time🚂 We met at Rush and Lusk Train Station at 8:30 and had our Leapcards at the ready. When we arrived to Connolly Station we then had to get a Dart to Sandymount. From Sandymount we had a quick walk to the RDS which is where all the fun began! There were many people showing off their very impressive skills from hairdressing to film making🎥 We also got to talk to many colleges about courses and apprenticeships that might interest us. There was some delicious food choices outside but unfortunately the rain kept most of us inside, thankful we brought a packed lunch! After a very enjoyable and informative few hours it was time to head back to Lusk. We took both the dart and train again and then walked back to school for our last 2 classes. This was a great learning experience and gave us some great ideas on the skills we can work on in TY!

By Sinead Rafferty (4B)Lilliput Adventure Centre 🏕️ On Monday the 23rd of September, the 4th Year students were lucky enough to head down to Lilliput Adventure Centre in County Westmeath for a bonding trip away. We had our sleeping bags and pillows at the ready. We all looked as if we were going for a week instead of overnight ! After starting off with an early rise, we met at the school for 7:45am. We hit the road shortly after. After what felt like a very quick bus journey, we arrived in Lilliput and the girls headed to their dorms and the boys to their tents (The boys were envious of our hot radiators and comfortable mattresses!) We were divided into groups and commenced the various different activities. Some included Orienteering, Rock Climbing, Hiking, Aero Ball and more. All the activities were great fun and eased us in for what was yet to come. After a quick bite to eat, and a quick outfit change, we headed down to the scenic Lough Ennell to do some Paddle Boarding. This was the highlight of my trip, even though it was a shock to the system !🥶 Next up was Bog Jumping - a renowned feature of Lilliput Adventure Centre. We spent half an hour crawling, jumping, twisting and falling around in the muck. Apparently it was ‘good for our skin!’ Everyone got stuck in and had great fun. We were a pathetic sight as we trudged back to the showers – everybody head to toe in mud! Everyone was glad to get changed into clean clothes. We got to spend some time relaxing in the evening before our Teachers brought us on a Ghost walk in the forest (in the dark)! After a long adventurous day we were all fit for our beds! We all had a fantastic time and it was a great opportunity to get to know our year group and our TY Tutors better. Here are a few snaps of our day…. By Maisie Lanigan (4D)On Wednesday the 18th of September the TY students were brought on an exciting day trip to the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska Co. Laois.
Us students were very excited to go out on our first day trip of TY!! We had an early start, meeting at the school for 7:30 and set off at around 7:45. We had great chats and enjoyed the scenic views on our journey down🌳 When we arrived we discussed our meeting time & place and made sure we could all contact our teachers. After that was sorted we were let in and excited to explore! We were amazed to see the amount of people, stalls and entertainment there. It was a lovely sunny day which made it even better☀️ We went to watch the actual ploughing competitions which were very professional and interesting to see🚜 After a lot of walking, shopping and tasting delicious treats we had to head back to Lusk. It was a very enjoyable trip and has made the TY's very excited for what's to come!! |
